How to Check a Florida Screen Enclosure Contractor License

Updated November 2026

Florida licenses contractors who build and structurally repair aluminum screen enclosures. The state's specialty categories are set out in Fla. Admin. Code R. 61G4-15.100, Certified Specialty Contractors. Many enclosure builders hold a structural aluminum / screen enclosure specialty license (numbers often start with SCC), while others work under a general, building or residential contractor license (CGC, CBC or CRC).

How to check

  1. Open the DBPR license search.
  2. Search by license number if you have it, or by the business or owner name.
  3. Confirm the license is current and active and that the name matches the company on your contract.
  4. Ask for a certificate of insurance and call the insurer to confirm it.
  5. For permitted work, make sure the permit is pulled under that same license.

Do rescreeners need a license?

A like-for-like rescreen of an undamaged frame often does not need a building permit, but local rules vary. Some counties and cities also require local registration. Call your building office (listed on each city page) if you are unsure.

After a hurricane

Storms bring out unlicensed crews. Never pay the full price up front, get everything in writing and check the license before work starts. For insurance help, contact the Florida Department of Financial Services, consumer help.
