Hurricane Season Pool Cage Checklist for SWFL Homeowners
The Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. A few simple steps before and after a storm make repairs and insurance claims much easier.
Before the season
- Photograph and video the whole enclosure, including the frame, screen, doors and gutters, so you have a dated record of its condition.
- Fix torn panels and loose or corroded screws now, while contractors have openings.
- Clear gutters and trim trees and palms near the cage.
- Find your policy and know your hurricane deductible.
When a storm is coming
- Bring furniture, grills and decor in from the lanai so they cannot become projectiles.
- Follow official guidance from your county emergency management office and the Florida Division of Emergency Management.
After the storm
- Stay out from under a bent or partly collapsed cage.
- Photograph all damage before cleanup.
- Call your insurer, then get written estimates from licensed contractors. Here's how to check a license.
- Find storm-repair pros by city: Cape Coral, Fort Myers, North Fort Myers, Lehigh Acres, Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel, Bonita Springs, Estero, Naples, Marco Island, Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte.
